A warm welcome from Sheila and Tony…

We will endeavour to make your stay at Hill Crest Gite a memorable one!

Here’s what some of our guests had to say.

Warm Welcome

Dear Sheila & Tony Thank you so much or your warm welcome. Your house is just fantastic with lots of thought about every detail. It’s been exactly what we needed as a seasonal home from home. With rugby practice, mole-hunting and board games as diversions here, and beautiful walks in the forest and around the lake, we have found it an ideal base, and a superb antidote to the world of Zoom! A huge thank you and good luck with the barn!

Joanna Kuenssberg – The Hague – Dec 2022

Beautiful Stay

Thank you for this beautiful stay in Normandy, and this cosy house where nothing is missing.  We took advantage of the living room and spent pleasant moments with the family.

Failler Families – Paris & Tours, France – Nov 2021

Best Gite

Having come here as ‘just us two’ instead of with our extended family, we were not sure how things would work out, but you gave us a lovely warm welcome, which immediately made us feel at home here.  The Gite is lovely, with the log burner at his time of year it s wonderfully cosy.

We’ve enjoyed our days out to local towns and villages Mont St Michel (in perfect weather), Granville, Lake Dathee.

Without a doubt the best Gite we have ever stayed in. Now that the passport is sorted out we hope to return with the whole family. Any thanks for your hospitality and help in every way and friendly drinking company!! All the very best.

Wonderfully Relaxing Stay

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at Hil Crest Farmhouse. Sheila and Tony live in te other part of the house and are therefore always available for any problems or questions. We stayed on the domain with 5 adults and 3 children. The cottage was really equipped for children, very pleasant. The area was very quiet, ideal to completely relax!

Caroline Van D. – Deurne, Belgium – August, 2021

Wonderful Holiday

Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday. You have a fantastically, beautiful, clean and cosy house. Is is wonderful that everything you need is there! Unfortunately the weather was not that great this week, but we were able to do all sorts of things. Very happy that after a year with Covid-19 and all that came with it, we could come to ourselves. The same goes for our three (adolescent) men (they loved karting in Le Mans and the road on the lawnmower). Thank you very much.

Greetings Martine, Robert, Yoran, Daud & Maxim, The Netherlands – August, 2021

Large, very well equipped country side cottage

We had a great time in the house. The house is very spacious and very clean! The owners supply all those little unexpected extra’s we have not seen before. As the owners put it “they offer the house the way they would want their favourite house to be”.

Robert de J, The Netherlands – August, 2021

Very nice stay in the Normandy countryside

Very pleasant stay in a beautiful house, very beautiful peaceful and green setting and very attentive hosts

Small Norman Paradise

We had a wonderful stay with Sheila and Tony. The house is superb, spacious and very well appointed. The garden is splendid and ideal for children (trampoline, full of games, swimming pool). We were greeted like royalty by Sheila and Tony who are lovely. a real pleasure!

Celine S, Brussels, Belgium – July, 2021

A Fantastic Place and Welcome

Tony and Sheila’s Hill Crest lodge is truly a gem. Nestled on the heights of Sourdeval, it is quiet and has a large garden (with trampoline and swimming pool) which delighted children, but all amenities are at most ten minutes by car. Our group of two families (4 adults, 3 children) were comfortably accommodated there, and we had room. The most important to note: the owners were present on site, and taking care of us: from a welcome bottle, to a bicycle loan, to an instant replacement of a bulb or to the installation of deckchairs in the garden, we had never been greeted so warmly. We can only recommend this vacation spot! Tony and Sheila, a big thank you from our group!

Arnaud B, Liege, Belgium – July, 2021

Great Gite

Great gite, beautifully situated on a hill with beautiful views. The gite is beautiful and very complete and cosily furnished. Everything has been thought of and everything is super neat. Very large garden, great for children playing (swimming pool, trampoline, climbing frame and swing) and also for parents who want to relax. Also inside the children had their own playroom and plenty of space. Plenty to do in the area, including invasion beaches, Mt St Michel. Very warm welcome and actually we didn’t want to leave after a week.

Jan Peter L, Wageningen, The Netherlands – July, 2021

Great Hospitality

Thank you for your hospitality. We have enjoyed our stay very much.

Ratzow Family, Denmark – July, 2020

Lovely Stay

We have had a lovely stay in your gite. Our little girls loved it from the oment we entered the ground. They ran, swam, searched for treasures, ate lots of ice cream and slept in beautiful bedrooms. Therefore we also had a great stay! In the surroundings we liked: The memorial at Caen, the beaches at Granville and Avranches and the 3 course lunch at Zebra in Sourdeval. Take care with all the contraction work, keep taking brakes!!

The Grint Family, The Netherlands – July, 2020

We had a great stay in Sourdeval. The cottage is spacious, functional, very nicely furnished and decorated. Ideal for a large family, we were 6 adults and 3 children and everyone had their space. Sheila and Tony are very welcoming, the house was decorated for Christmas with a lot of dedication … they take great care and make the stay very warm! Thank you for this excellent Christmas!!!

Elodie L,  France – December, 2019

Best rental we’ve ever stayed in!

We’ve been renting vacation homes for years and this was the best to date! Sheila and Tony have thought of everything to make it comfortable. The living area was large with comfortable seating for everyone, the kitchen was the best equipped of any rental we’ve stayed in, the welcome basket was gracious and generous! We ate it all! We are a family of 4 – all adults. We had plenty of room, beds were comfortable. Great location for sightseeing in Normandy. Sheila’s attention to detail made it feel like staying at a friend’s home. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Allison F, UK – October, 2019

Wonderful Place and Lovely People.

This farmhouse is beautifully set up for multi-generational family holidays. Sheila and Tony have thought of just about everything that is needed to make a stay relaxing and enjoyable. The area is lovely with lots to do and, even during a wet October, there is enough with the house and grounds to keep everyone entertained. The fires were lovely and made the house so cosy – fabulous for a long evening meal and board games!

Frances  L, Broadstairs, UK – October 2019

Greeted by a lovely basket

Greeted by a lovey basket of welcome gifts on arrival.  Thank you for your wonderful hospitality. We have had a wonderful time! Many etra touches from the Halloween decor to the cakes, which were really appreciated! The children enjoyed the beautiful grounds to let off some steam. The Gite allowed us to create many new family memories

We loved our trip to Le Mont-Saint-Michel the steps are a killer nut Linda made it to the top anyway. Take a small picnic with you as the prices are hyped in all the cafes and restaurants. Home from Home

Sheila and Tony were so helpful and on hand to answer questions during our visit. They’ve made a lovely setting in the gite. Everything was catered for from spare European plugs, blankets for chilly evenings and spare washing machine tablets. The swings and slide were brilliant for the children. We were able to watch them from the garden table as well as enjoying the view across Calvados.

J Harburn, Mold, UK – August, 2019

Happy Memories

You have made a home from home here in France. We had 5 adults and 3 children staying in your lovely gite. At no point did the children say ‘I’m bored’. That’s a rare thing with a 6, 7 & 8 year old. There is so much to do inside and out. Everyone went to bed feeling tired from doing so many activities. The local area has so much to offer. We went to the Enchanted Forest which was really good value for money. The kids loved the secret door through to the master bedroom. The D Day beached were well worth a visit as well as Mont-Saint-Michel, which reminded us of Harry Potter The kids loved the playroom. The adults were really grateful for the welcome basket. Your local knowledge really heled us place our days out. The local zoo was brilliant for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for helping us to make happy memories

The Gregory’s & Ashworth Family, Romsey, UK – August, 2019

Lovely Farmhouse

Thank you so much Sheila and Tony for a great week in your lovely farmhouse. The house had everything we needed and the garden is fantastic and the children really loved it. We had a really good lunch at L’Abbaye at Le Neufourg, Amazing value and English spoken! The zoo at Juvgues was very good and the Enchanted Village was much enjoyed by the 5 year old in our party. All in all, a great week, which we all really enjoyed.

Le Robbey (Restaurant) in Vire does excellent pizza & burgers and is family friendly. Vengeons has a church that you really should visit. Loads of handy shops and bakery (or three) in Sourdeval. See you next year!

Great place, lovely people!

We had a great time! When we arrived we had a lovely welcome by the hosts. The house was clean and big enough for all of us (7 people). The garden was wonderful with playground, swing and trampoline. We lend bikes and they had a BBQ. The house is exactly as in the pictures on the internet. We had a wonderful time and recommend of to everyone!!

Yvonne, Netherland – May, 2019

Wonderful place to stay, with amazing views

The gite is perfect for a families with is clean, well equipped house and fantastic grounds. The views are stunning and Shelia and Tony are excellent hosts who can’t do enough for you.
There are lots of places to visit in the area and close to the historic beaches of Normandy. Couldn’t recommend this place enough we had a fantastic time.

Emma H, Houghton Conquest, UK – May 2019

Wonderful family holiday

It was so good to be able to return to Hillcrest and this time bring our children and grandchildren. Tony and Sheila thoroughly deserve their 5 star rating, they both go that extra mile to make your stay special. It is the best equipped gite we have ever stayed in and spotlessly clean. Sheila’s welcome hamper filled with local produce and treats for the children was much appreciated and is just one example of the lovely things they both do for their guests. My husband is already looking at channel tunnel and ferry prices for the Autumn so we can return and bring our friends so they can enjoy this superb gite in its lovely location

Janet & Dave B, Bedford, UK – May, 2019

An amazing return visit!

After spending a week here last year we decided to return again this year, but this time for 2 weeks, it was a great choice! We had an amazing 2 week holiday from the moment we arrived, from the beautiful welcome basket packed with lots of goodies including chocolate Easter bunnies for the girls, to the house’s fabulous location which made it a great base for visiting many places in Normandy within around an hour and a half, like Mont St Michel, St Mere Eglise and the Normandy luge at the viaduct to name just a few, the owners Sheila and Tony are amazing and are always on hand and ready to help if needed, we had the most amazing and memorable holiday and look forward to visiting again!!

Clare F, Nuneaton, UK – April 2019

Perfect family stay

Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owners Sheila and Tony who throughout the week were very helpful and informative about the area and things to do.
The farmhouse was perfect, we travelled as 2 families of 4 with children ranging from 1 to 7. The bedrooms were spacious and beds super comfy! Everything was spotlessly clean and nicely furnished.
The indoor playroom was a great touch with TV, DVD player, subbutteo table, board games and books. However when the weather was fine (and even when it wasn’t) the children loved running around outside in the huge garden, splashing in the pool and bouncing on the trampoline. They even got friendly with the owners grandchildren who came to stay with them, which was lovely :)
The kitchen was very well equipped, if you needed anything it was there.. we only ate out a couple of evenings as it was lovely to eat at home using the BBQ area or cooking a Bolognese on the hob.
There are lovely cafe’s/restaurants in Vire, we went to Le Roberry and La Badiane which were both very child friendly.
We enjoyed visiting Zoo de Jurquez and the Viaduc de la Souleuvre which was a fantastic day out! The children loved the play area and riding fast down the ‘Luge’ and (some) of the adults liked the 1300 foot zip line!!
We also had days out to Le Saint Mont Michel and the beach at Carolles, which had lovely soft sand and great rock pools.
Overall we would highly recommend and would love to return :)

Antonia C, Heywood, Lancs, UK – August 2018

Beautiful farmhouse and surroundings

I stayed here for a week with my partner, our 4 children and 2 friends. Wow what a great time we all had. We could not have asked for anything more, it was just perfect in every way. The farmhouse is very spacious, extremely clean and was equipped with everything we could need. The kids especially loved having their own space in the ‘play room’ which again was equipped with lots for them to do from drawing, watching a dvd or playing on the football table. They also loved the swimming pool, the trampoline and all of the open space outside so that they could run around or play football. The farmhouse is located in a peaceful and relaxing location with spectacular views over the countryside. Sheila and Tony were very welcoming and it was a pleasure meeting them both. They both had great knowledge of the area so were able to recommend places to visit and even give us directions to the local shops. We have created great memories of our stay here and would highly recommend it. We will certainly be back.

Collette, Coventry, UK – August 2018

Amazingly perfect stay and perfect holiday

The farmhouse is a home from home. The interior is furnished to perfection and there isn’t anything that hasn’t been thought of. The gardens and surroundings are absolutely picturesque and there is so much to do and see in the area. Myself and the rest of the party had a fantastic week and really didn’t want to leave. We have some wonderful memories to cherish. The owners made sure our stay was just perfect and they couldn’t have been more welcoming. I would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to visit the area. Thank you Sheila and Tony :) xx

Anna S, Coventry, UK – July 2018

Beautifully designed and spotlessly clean house.

We have been to the house again because we wanted to see it in the summer.
Once again we received a friendly and warm welcome.
The owners have been very busy with the house and garden and it all looked lovely. Their efforts to give you the best are amazing.
We love this area because you have lots around to see and do and you can return to a beautiful house in peaceful surroundings.
Will most likely keep going back because there is so much to see and we know we are always going to get a spotlessly clean comfortable, beautiful house.

Karen T, Bourne, Lincs, UK – July 2018

Peace, quite, excellent cycling and stunning views.

We have just got back from a great holiday at Hill Crest, L’Engraisserie in Normandy.
We chose this Gite because it is just off a Velo Vert, these are safe cycle routes throughout France, the one at Hill Crest runs from Vire to Mt St Michel on a disused railway line.
The first ride we did was a short cycle north to Lake Dathee a very picturesque spot, this ride is mostly on the disused railway line only a short road section on quiet lanes at the start and then from the railway line to the lake.
The Lake has its own cycle path running around it, Lake Dathee also has exercise stations and stunning views. We stopped at the golf course on the side of Lake Dathee for a refreshing beer at the bar.
If you head south from the Gite you drop down to the the Velo Vert just below Vengeons, this is the same railway line so again very safe for cyclist of all ages.
In this direction you can cycle all the way to the amazing Mont St Michel a 100 mile round trip, a fantastic ride, 90% on disused railway lines, the last section is on quiet lanes from Pontaubalt to Mont St Michel.
For those who are not up to a long ride, you can cycle to one of the many Towns along the way, Soudeval is the nearest with its fantastic flower displays, next is Mortain with its fabulous waterfalls, after Motain the railway forks left to Domfront which has a medieval castle and views or right to St Hilaire which has a large market on Wednesdays, next is Ducey with its Chateau and 400yr old bridge, Pontaboult is last, this was the site of a fierce battle in the 2nd world war.
The railway line ends here, so from Pontaboult to Mt St Michel it’s on to some of the most beautiful well sign posted quiet country lanes i’ve cycled, you will cycle past the German war cemetery at Huisnes-sur-Mer well worth a visit because it was not just our young men forced to fight.
In the peak season you cannot cycle directly up to Mt St Michel, you can lock your bikes at the bike park and then either walk or take the shuttle bus.
Mt St Michel is one of the most magical places we have visited, take time to explore all its paths and viewpoints.
There is lots of free parking at all of the towns on route so you can do this ride in sections during your stay at Hill Crest,

Superb gite, stunning gardens and warm welcome – perfect holiday venue

We got the warmest of welcomes from Sheila and Tony when we arrived and it just got better from there. The house was beautifully furnished in every room and had the most comfortable beds we’d ever come across on holiday – they were so good even our grandchildren kept talking about them! This was also the best equipped gite we’d ever stayed in. Everything you could want for was provided, from a delightful welcome pack, all the basics such as coffee, olive oil, etc. and there was nothing in the kitchen we couldn’t find – right down to three oyster knives! (this really impressed us as we usually have to take our own!). The extensive gardens were lovely just to sit in and relax with the stunning views, while the pool, trampoline, swings, etc. provided plenty of entertainment and enjoyment for our grandchildren. We all had a superb holiday and our warm thanks go to Sheila and Tony for doing so much to make it so perfect.

Roy, Norfolk, UK – May 2018

Grande Maison Familiale

Très belle maison dans un cadre magnifique. Parfait pour une grande famille. très confortable.Très bon accueil.

Briggitte C, France – May 2018

Wonderful place!

From the first mail with the house owners, Sheila and Tony, we were treated like hotel guests. They even asked us if we needed something from the shops as we arrived on a Sunday. At arrival we thought that he house is even more beautiful than it looked on the website. It was clean, cosy and warm when we arrived. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the house offers absolutely everything you need. The children loved the so-called ‘men-cave’. The property was well-maintained and it is obvious that Sheila and Tony put much effort and love in what they do. They were also very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the talks with them. The area offers so many things that are worth seeing that a week is actually not enough. We visited Mont Sint Michael, Granville and some other places including Colleville-sur-Mere. We ate a plat du jour in Vire in a place called Brasserie Le Central and it was simple but good and with friendly staff. Pizzeria Le Four a Bois in Vire was a bit of a disappointment; the pizzas were not that good and quite expensive as well. We would like to thank Sheila and Tony for their warm welcome and for our very pleasant stay!

Helen B. Netherlands – April, 2018

Wonderful house in marvellous area

After a very warm welcome, we felt immediately at home. Very nice and well equipped kitchen, very cosy and clean rooms. Comfortable sitting room with plenty of cosy seats. Wonderful garden with a stunning view from the top of the hill…..Surely a place to visit again !!!

An D, Belgium – April, 2018

Stunning and perfect property to stay at and would book here again.

A wonderful 4 night stay at this stunning property. The views are spectacular and the property was spotlessly clean and had all the essentials (and more) provided that you needed. This included information of all the best places to visit ( opening times and prices), best local walks and restaurants to eat in the evening. Highly recommended and we will be staying again. Thanks to Sheila and Tony for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing.

Neil D, Birmingham, UK – April, 2018

Fantastic farmhouse, amazing holiday!

We received a warm welcome upon arrival at the farmhouse, the owners have recently renovated the property and made it light and airy, with all the mod cons its like home from home with a French twist! The rooms have been beautifully decorated and the beds are like sleeping on clouds, its very cosy. The children (aged 9 and 12) loved the playroom and the outside area with the climbing frame, swings and slides There’s so much to see and do just on the doorstep, from walking and bike riding to boating and fishing, go a little further afield by car ride and there are some beautiful beaches and places of interest to visit, we had an amazing time and will certainly be booking again!! Thanks to Sheila and Tony for making our holiday stay fantastic!

Clare F, Nuneaton, UK – April, 2018

Very welcoming

Sheila and Tony are very welcoming and caring for the slightest need. The house is spacious, well decorated with two fireplaces in living rooms. We recommend for a green, secluded and quiet holiday.

Alexandre L. France – Dec 2017

Large beautiful property in beautiful surroundings

We (9 of us) had a fantastic time in this holiday rental. We stayed over Christmas and we even had a Christmas tree! The owners Sheila and Tony have only had the place a few months and are currently updating the décor. They have impeccable taste.

The house is will furnished and equipped. I have my own cleaning business so obviously I do look deeply at things. I can honestly say that the place was spotless. Just take your clothes and go! Everything is there. Set in beautiful surroundings with lots to do. A must for a great family holiday, we will be back!

Karen T, UK

Very comfortable, spacious and friendly

We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived. We were a large family staying in the house and we found it to be very comfortable and spacious. We enjoyed exploring the area and found some lovely walks.

I am looking forward to going again in warmer weather and taking my watercolour paint to capture the countryside.

A Warm Welcome and Excellent Value – 5 star

Stayed at this lovely bedroom Farmhouse/Gite. Spent a week relaxing in this wonderful part of France. Sheila and Tony, our hosts made us fell most welcome and advised us on places to visit. We came with friends and liked the farmhouse so much we have decided to return with our children and grandchildren in June 2018 as there is plenty to do for all ages and lots of places to visit locally. The farmhouse is clean and well presented.

The owners are currently refurbishing the farmhouse and we were lucky enough to be the first to use the new sofas. I believe the work continues over the winter, so will be looking to see the changes when we return. There is plenty of space outside and inside for children to play and lovely views over the country side. Excellent value!

A selection of comments from guests who’ve stayed here over the years

Scenery is stunning. The cottage is well equipped, couldn’t fault it at all. We will definitely be back for another visit.

A lovely place in a wonderful setting with great hosts. It has been a truly memorable holiday for the whole family from grandparents, parents and grandchildren alike.

Thank you for making our stay so easy and pleasurable, it really made for the perfect family holiday.

The kids (and big kids) loved playing in your amazing grounds.

What a fabulous week! The hosts were the most hospitable and accommodating hosts we have ever had in France. The house is fantastic and catered for our every need.

Nothing left undone, especially for the children.

A fantastic family holiday, lots to do, house very comfortable and most welcoming.

A lovely family holiday with loads of on-site activities for the kids to do (loved the trampoline) plus lots to see and do in the surrounding area. A beautiful house and many thanks to the hosts for making our stay so fantastic.
