Calling all Budding Robin Hoods

One of the most popular activities we offer free of charge to our guests at our Normandy gite to rent is archery. The great thing about archery is that it’s relatively easy to do for all ages and abilities but not so easy to do well. We have a designated archery area, kevlar safety netting and a wide range of bows and equipment for youngsters up to older more capable archers as you can see below. After some initial training from Nigel, we can nominate a responsible adult in your group to supervise everyone which means that you can...

Bake Off Fun at Hill Crest

As well as the fantastic children’s play room in our Normandy farmhouse gite, another great thing on offer for your children for those occasional wet or cold days is a cake making sessions with our very own Mary Berry aka Cathy. For a small extra charge to cover the cost of the ingredients your children can make and decorate their very own batch of fairy cakes under the watchful eye of Cathy and Boo who is always on hand in case anyone drops any tasty morsels on the floor! We are very family and child focussed and offer a huge range of...

Who Ate All The Curry??

Two of the most popular superstars for our Normandy visitors to Hill Crest Farmhouse are Molly and Valken our very friendly ponies. We’ve just had the horse dentist in for their dental health check and Molly’s age was confirmed as being around 30 years old which for a pony is a ripe old age – we’ve had her for about 20 years and weren’t sure of her age and a horse dentist can tell the age from looking at her teeth! The dentist estimated that Valken is a baby at only about 6 years old. They were both really good...

Finally the Big Day Arrived … !

Finally the big day of the 18th September came and dogs were allowed on the Carolles Plage possibly one of the best beaches in Normandy and just an hour away from our Normandy gites to rent and Boo, Cathy and I packed up the car and off we went. As you can see Boo wasted no time in hurtling off into the sunset – we think he’s 95% Labrador and about 5% lurcher which gives him an amazing turn of speed and super glue traction around bends! It’s an amazing place to visit for children and adults alike especially at low tide when...

Absolutely Gutted!

We had an absolutely wonderful family come and stay with us last week who took the opportunity of walking down the lane to our nearby Trout Fishery to try and catch their supper. It’s a great place, with two ‘proper fishing’ lakes and a smaller ‘guarantee to catch lake’ where you get free use of rods and bait and pay by the kilo for what you catch. They returned a couple of hours or so later with mile wide smiles and a bag of six plump brown trout that then needed gutting and cleaning before their final resting...

Don’t Miss Out …

We are already taking bookings for next year and have just had a booking for two weeks in August 2017 so if you would like to come and stay with us next year during the spring and summer our advice is to book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. One of the things that makes us one of the best Normandy gites to rent and such a popular destination for families and friends is the wide range of activities and things to do on site here at Hill Crest Farmhouse including free pony rides, archery, air rifle shooting, trampoline and play frame,...

Lake Dathee – A Real Bonus For Our Visitors!

The hot weather seems to have arrived with a vengeance and our Normandy Gite and our above ground splash pool is proving very popular with our visitors and we’ve even got Boo’s paddling pool out so he can cool down too! But just a ten minute drive from the Farmhouse is the fantastic Lake Dathee with its safe sandy swimming  beach, toilets, water sports, fishing and a 7km cycling, walking and very pram friendly path all around it. It one of the main reasons for coming here and we have a good stock of free to use bikes, kayaks,...

Butter Wouldn’t Melt or Would it?

We’re in the busiest part of our season at our Normandy Farmhouse Gite the moment and we had a wonderful Dutch family come and stay with us last week who had a great time especially as they had wall to wall sunshine throughout their stay. As usual Boo was a great hit with the children and this picture says it all BUT ten minutes after having this picture taken with Els and Freek he snuck back into our kitchen, upended our large swing bin and enjoyed the rich labrador pickings of the previous three days rubbish! Some TV vet once said...
