Book Early For 2018 To Avoid Disappointment !

We are now well into the summer and the summer holidays here at our Normandy Gite and we have had lots of wonderful people come and stay in our 5 bedroom farmhouse with lots more to come over the coming months which is great. Hill Crest Farmhouse Gite is an unbeatable place to stay with lots of great things to do on site without even having to get in the car and lots more on our doorstep and further afield. We’ve had lots of families returning from last year and even the year before which is really nice and we already have six of the...

Thanks Heavens For Lake Dathee!

Thanks Heavens For Lake Dathee!

One of the key reasons we decided to buy our Normandy Gite here was that there are so many great things to see and do for all the family within and easy drive and one of the most popular during the hot summer and Autumn months is the fantastic Lake Dathee which is just a few minutes drive away. Like most of Europe we are experiencing a fantastic run of brilliant weather and the lucky family who are staying with us this week have really made the most of it. Lake Dathee is really a massive reservoir that supplies water to everyone and every...

What on earth is this …

What on earth is this …

One of the wonderful things for ourselves and our Normandy Gite visitors is all this wonderful countryside surrounding us and the amazing range of great and small wildlife it supports and that frequently comes our way. Last week Cathy was doing her favourite job of ‘Poo Picking’ in the pony paddock and nearly stumbled over a fledgling Tawny Owl almost ready to fly and minding its own business in a clump of gorse. We could hear the angry cries of it’s mum and dad from the nearby trees so we left the youngster alone for its...

Fowl Play’s Back

Last Friday we went to see the Chicken Van Man in the car park of Brico – the French equivalent of B&Q.  He’s been there every Friday ever since we came to our Normandy Gite so we figured he’s the best bet in the area when it comes to buying chickens. We bought a black one and a red one to start with and after lots of discussing/arguing we (Cathy mainly) came up with the names of Maggie and May and they are now firmly settled in at their ‘des res’ hen house down near the stables. After a week of high...

Spring’s Springing And The Cows Are Back

We’ve just returned from a road trip to Nerja near Malaga for some sunshine before the start of our season at Hillcrest – our first visitors are coming on Saturday and it will be great to hear the sound of happy children and for that matter the adults after the quiet of winter! We did nearly 2,500 miles from our Normandy gite and back without a single hold up – try doing that in the UK!! That’s one of the reasons we chose to come to Normandy as its so easy to get to from the UK – we’ve got back to Calais in...

Oops – I Spoke To Soon …

Please ignore my previous post from yesterday as the final week of the peak summer holidays is no longer available but we still have 30th August onwards free plus good availability for many Spring and Autumn weeks which are great times to visit as the weather is usually settled and everything is quieter. If you have school aged children past experience shows that the October half term is a great week to book – much cheaper, good weather and the amazing autumn colours plus we are only a 4 hour drive time from Calais or around an hour or...

Last Summer Holiday Week Still Available

There seems nothing like a bit of winter wind and rain to get people booking their summer holidays as it obviously gives us all something to look forward to and in case you have forgotten what the sun looks like here’s a wonderful picture of sunset over our nearest seaside beach of Carolles Carolles Beach is under an hour from our Normandy Gite but just 10 minutes down the road is the wonderful lakeside beach at Lake Dathee – perfect for swimming, boating, fishing and walking or cycling around the 7km path that winds around it....

‘Hill Crest Farmhouse…….more than just a place to stay’

Thank you to all the children who left us lovely pictures last year to put on our playroom wall, which is now very colourful and full up! Each year we run a little competition to choose the best, and this year, the prize goes to Kiki Blake with her picture of the pretty moths she saw in the garden at Hill Crest Farmhouse during her stay. It was a hard choice as always as there were some great works of art from all ages, so well done Kiki, and we are glad you liked your little prize. We look forward to some more pictures this year! Our little...

Ho Ho Happy Christmas Everybody!

We’d just like to wish all our past, present and future friends and visitors a very, very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Thanks to all our friends and visitors we’ve had a great 2016 and 2017 is looking good too as we have a higher number of forward bookings than we had last year. Cathy and I have been helping out at the nearby Reindeer Centre – Cathy as Chief Elf  and Nigel as a Santa – it’s hard work but great fun as you can see from the pictures and we’ve even tried to get Boo to...

Giant Guinee Pig Attacks Boo!

Well it looks like a giant guinee pig to me and made me smile so I thought I would share it with you.  The giant guinee pig is in fact a Bear Coated Sharpei – a wonderful breed of dog that originates from Japan and where it was once bred for fighting and she’s one of Boo’s best canine friends – I hope the picture brought a smile to your face  and hope you enjoy...
