Book Early For 2018 To Avoid Disappointment !

We are now well into the summer and the summer holidays here at our Normandy Gite and we have had lots of wonderful people come and stay in our 5 bedroom farmhouse with lots more to come over the coming months which is great. Hill Crest Farmhouse Gite is an unbeatable place to stay with lots of great things to do on site without even having to get in the car and lots more on our doorstep and further afield. We’ve had lots of families returning from last year and even the year before which is really nice and we already have six of the spring/summer weeks booked for next year so if you are thinking about coming next year then do have a look at our availability...

Thanks Heavens For Lake Dathee!

Thanks Heavens For Lake Dathee!

One of the key reasons we decided to buy our Normandy Gite here was that there are so many great things to see and do for all the family within and easy drive and one of the most popular during the hot summer and Autumn months is the fantastic Lake Dathee which is just a few minutes drive away. Like most of Europe we are experiencing a fantastic run of brilliant weather and the lucky family who are staying with us this week have really made the most of it. Lake Dathee is really a massive reservoir that supplies water to everyone and every where. It boasts a safe and easy cinder path all the way round – perfect for bikes, walking and prams and best of all...

What on earth is this …

What on earth is this …

One of the wonderful things for ourselves and our Normandy Gite visitors is all this wonderful countryside surrounding us and the amazing range of great and small wildlife it supports and that frequently comes our way. Last week Cathy was doing her favourite job of ‘Poo Picking’ in the pony paddock and nearly stumbled over a fledgling Tawny Owl almost ready to fly and minding its own business in a clump of gorse. We could hear the angry cries of it’s mum and dad from the nearby trees so we left the youngster alone for its parents to feed it and the following day it had gone and presumably had taken its first flight out of here! A couple of weeks ago at...

Fowl Play’s Back

Fowl Play’s Back

Last Friday we went to see the Chicken Van Man in the car park of Brico – the French equivalent of B&Q.  He’s been there every Friday ever since we came to our Normandy Gite so we figured he’s the best bet in the area when it comes to buying chickens. We bought a black one and a red one to start with and after lots of discussing/arguing we (Cathy mainly) came up with the names of Maggie and May and they are now firmly settled in at their ‘des res’ hen house down near the stables. After a week of high expectancy waiting, yesterday Maggie presented us with her first very small egg and today May did the same – obviously encouraged by...

Spring’s Springing And The Cows Are Back

Spring’s Springing And The Cows Are Back

We’ve just returned from a road trip to Nerja near Malaga for some sunshine before the start of our season at Hillcrest – our first visitors are coming on Saturday and it will be great to hear the sound of happy children and for that matter the adults after the quiet of winter! We did nearly 2,500 miles from our Normandy gite and back without a single hold up – try doing that in the UK!! That’s one of the reasons we chose to come to Normandy as its so easy to get to from the UK – we’ve got back to Calais in under 4 hours once and the channel ports are much, much closer so come on down and visit us in April or May as it’s a...

Oops – I Spoke To Soon …

Please ignore my previous post from yesterday as the final week of the peak summer holidays is no longer available but we still have 30th August onwards free plus good availability for many Spring and Autumn weeks which are great times to visit as the weather is usually settled and everything is quieter. If you have school aged children past experience shows that the October half term is a great week to book – much cheaper, good weather and the amazing autumn colours plus we are only a 4 hour drive time from Calais or around an hour or so from the ferry ports. Above – Go Aping at St Sever forest just 10 minutes or so from us Alternatively, if you are set on...
